A few niggles now and then but running regularly. Some work done since delivery before the start of the season. Over 3,000 miles by the end May - will be quite a bit more now.

Yet again people feel the need to knock photographers so let's see your "imaginative" stuff then.

I don't take photos, other than as record shots. I have no aspirations to take imaginative stuff, so I don't waste time trying to do so.

I had an enjoyable visit on Wednesday. The 9.00am from Pickering was diesel hauled, while as stated above 10.00am was the B1 plus 3 teaks. The 12.30 from Grosmont and 14:00 from Pickering listed in the timetable as diesel hauled were actually hauled by the B1 and 6 teaks.I saw the Q6 at Newbridge but no sign of 29. Pickering Station looked very smart with a volunteer gang touching up the paintwork and the roof does look impressive ( it wasn't there last time I visted and I remembered
sponsoring 2 slates). A collection of photos from my visit including some showing how the new platform is progressing at Whitby can be fould at http://paulsimpson.zenfolio.com/p611826612

The B1 is a super engine and absolutely right for the NYMR in all regards. I hope it stays on when the 5-year agreement is up. It ought to, it must be doing extremely well on mileage earnings!

I thought it was working to pay off the finance that the NYMR provided to complete its last overhaul? Therefore no mileage earnings would be payable?

    Could have misread it though!

I have noticed a new gold timetable has been produced to start on August 2nd, as mentioned in a previous post I will be visiting the area in August and would be grateful if somebody could provide me with loco diagrams for the gold timetable as, if I have read correctly, there appeared to be some confusion over the new timetable. Thanks to those who responded previously and in advance to anybody who can help now.

The Gold timetable that started yesterday will be altered from when Whitby opens Platform 2, hopefully August 2nd.
Keep an eye on NYMR website.
There is no Loco Diagrams available yet I'm afraid, for new Gold timetable.
Watch this space as they say.

Work to create a second platform at Whitby is nearing completion. This will enable NYMR to run more trains in and out of Whitby as shown in Timetable B below which is due to apply from Saturday 09 August 2014. Passengers are advised to check closer to the beginning of August in case of any last minute unexpected delay.

Yes a great shame couldn't start on 2nd August as planned. Unforeseen things. Signalling transformer causing over run, hope it is just the week delay, as nearly everything has passed now ready for action.

I would like to say hopefully that the commissioning would be next week but at a guess and this is purely a personal view.
The redate could be 6 months or more away. I hope not though.
This is due to the high demand around the country for suitably qualified staff who can sign the vital bit of paper.
This sort of event can also occur on NWR resignalling schemes and has done, numerous times in the past.

Just hoping that maybe special arrangements can be taken to get this passed once repaired.
I know getting people back can be a pain with the Network Signalling Diary, perhaps be fitted in with local signal works at Scarborough or elsewhere.
After all the work and planning hoping is just a week ten day max delay.
Signing off just that shouldn't take to much time. Keeping fingers crossed.

140804 Whitby 45428 arrived at new platform 2 with first test train.jpg Update on Whitby Platform 2

The signalling was duly commissioned last Friday evening (1st), various paperwork and authorisation requirements were met and concluded yesterday afternoon, meaning that the first training/route learning trip - and the first train to use Platform 2 for 30 years - used the new Platform last night. (As a Leeds Holbeck Locomotive, 45428 is always said to have worked summer trains to Whitby over what is now the NYMR on a number of occasions during its mainline career - not sure what the rules were due to curvature for use of the old Platform 2 - the bays 3 and 4 had restrictions for C1 vehicles I believe).

    Photo from Philip Benham.

Training trips will continue through this week, with sign-off of the Platform for use scheduled for Friday and the first passenger trains - to the existing timetable - for Saturday, 9th.

    Well done to all concerned.

Excellent news. Thanks are due to Ploughman for posting links to the "civil engineering diary " updates, and to your Civil Engineer Nigel Trotter for taking the trouble to create the updates in the first place.
These updates have kept the project in front of us all, a constant reminder that we must visit Whitby, arriving behind NYMR steam of course.

I can just savour the fish chips and peas at Hadley's restaurant across the harbour bridge right now......
