Surely the tender from 92240 would be a good charter tender as that 9F shows no sign of being any closer to the front of the overhaul queue?

The tender from 75069 is currently being overhauled at the SVR. Unlikely to be complete in the short term, unlikely to be available in the medium-long term as 75069 will need it!

You would have thought they would have used it with 92212, when it visited, if it is serviceable.

Why? 92212 had a serviceable tender and using it meant there was no need to do any work on 92240's tender. I don't think there is any fundamental problem with the tender from 92240, but even so, having sat out of traffic for ten years or so it is bound to have needed some attention, whereas the tender on 92212 could go straight into traffic with minimal impact on the workshop programme.

Why would they use the tender from '40 behind '12? 92212s tender is unique, I think?

I cannot see 73096 giving up its tender. 92240 would be the bes option. 75069s tender is in the paint shop at Bridgnorth at the moment. Like Tom has said 73082s tender is being worked on at Sheffield park now.
71000s may have had adaptations that will render is useless for other locos. O and its in green. I dont think the Duke guys will want it repainted.

Correct about 92212's tender. The tender tank is the big BR1F, which carries 5625 gallons of water. To compensate for this extra weight, the springs are different to the other various BR1 tenders.

And its a bl**dy long way up the ladders to the filler cap!

It will be interesting to see where the guys behind 92134 source a tender from.

Makes me laugh when people demand that other groups loan hire out engines that are out of ticket or tenders that aren't being used. Basically what they are saying is that can we run your one into the ground for as small as possible hire fee (oh come on - we are all preservationists) and then give it back when its ******.

Want a tender? Build a tender

Not saying that at all. Somewhat less than challenging to work out a lease agreement that covers such issues.

Its just pointless to have tenders sitting round rotting waiting for locos to be repaired, which was why lines with rational policies had rather fewer tenders than locos.

Isn't the 73096 tender a Stanier frame with a pseudo BR1A tank, slightly smaller dimensions to fit the different frames? The boxes are mocked up to look like rollers outwardly aren't they?

Just to throw another BR Standard tender into the mix, 73050 is due out of ticket towards the end of the year.

Yes 73096 has a LMS tender chassis and a BR1G style tank.

73050 was the first Standard 5 to be delivered with a BR1G tender - the early BR1 would not fit 92134 without modifications.

9Fs were banned from the Cauldon Lowe branch in steam days and the ban has never been lifted.

surely if its a BR1G its not an early BR1, or its an early BR1 subsequently modified.... But the wonder of the standards is that your statement about compatibility is probably true

92134 is outside the Heritage Centre today with the boiler back in the frames

Its boiler or 92245's? It's had the latter on the frames for a while now

Was going to say the same. The 9F came off the rails at Crewe HC when being shunted around last year so they put 245s boiler on to stop it happening again.

Do the 'Colne' black 5's have tenders ? suppose theres the potential to get one from turkey, or add a kosher BR1 chassis to the batch of new build tenders required and do a swop with 73096... Include the Clan Project and that's at least three BR1 's required
