Fowler 2300 tank is very high on my list. Probably only second to a LBSCR K mogul.

How I wish I had the power to decree that we don't get to talk about more new builds before at least one of the many existing projects produces a locomotive! (Yes, yes, I know Tornado showed it can be done, and many others are proceeding steadily, but...)

If there is enthusiasm for a Victorian something or other as well as enthusiasm for Bulleids leader, how abouts alongside the Leader you build a replica of its soulmate, Dean's express 4-2-4 tank engine no 9...

    Hello,
A very much 'obscure ' locomotive:
Sharp Stewart 0-8-2T for the PTRy ,South Wales. Few South Wales Locos survived.

Perhaps the simplest of "new" builts I feel would be one of the illfated Southern River tanks. After all about three quarters of one still exists and is in use on the Swanage. I'm speaking of one of John Bunchs' U class 2-6-0s, [3]1806. After there are 2 Us' still in existance the second being built new as a 2-6-0. So what would be needed [other Johns' agreemenet], a rear extension plus 4 wheel bogie, a bunker/well tank, a pair of side tanks and new cab. It was proven that whilst yes there were faults with the orginal tank engine design, most of what happened in Seven Oaks derailment/crash was down to poorly maintained track. This is something I suggested in the thread about the "Bunch fleet" moving from the Mid Hants to Swanage.

There are a number of components which have been rescued from a scrapped Jeep - in particular wheels and some motion. The comment about patterns for the cylinders or fabricating them is no longer an issue. Cylinders can be cast using poly patterns at a fraction of the cost of a wood pattern. The Fowler tank cylinders were very similar to those of the Scot and therefore the Patriot.

31618, 31625 31638,31806 is 4 Us still in existance I think, so whilst one can be converted to a River tank, another can be shipped to Ireland and regauged, stlll leaving the two you mention....one of which could be converted to the LTE version....everyone happy?

Surely the prime candidate for conversion would be 31806? After all it would merely be returning it original condition.

My point exactly. There being so few "new/replacement" parts needed to return the engine to it's original pre-British Railways condition/livery:cool:! Though on second thoughts no as it couldn't be run in the dreaded British Railways livery:eek:..........

The point is that if 31806 was to be reconverted back to a River tank it wouldn't be eligible for it to wear a British Railways colour scheme having been converted into a 2-6-0 mogul tender engine so QED the BR brigade would be well and trully up in arms. As it is a well know [mythical] fact that Railways only came into being in the UK on the 1st of January 1948 when they were Nationalisedo_O!

I know that but eligibility hadn't stopped a red 8F, lined green Black 5 and a CR blue Fairburn to name but three. :)

Didn't a "Black" 5 once run on the KWVR covered in 1970s wallpaper?

Now that is the sublime to the ridiculous!

I've not heard about the motion, but if it exists then great. The wheels however belong to the UFTM and agreements would have to be made before they could be used. It would be a wonderful addition to the Irish scene and I would love to see it happen, but I don't think there are the same numbers of enthusiasts or money on this side of the water to make it a goer. :(

Yes - Solvite wallpaper ad. Of course the glue wasn't up to it so all the edges had to be redone with something much stronger before the filming started ;)

Whats needed is something that would be useful. Rather than oddities that were never saved. A new build L1, allowing more than one would be a good idea.

Failing that, just build a B16. Will do 25mph anywhere up anything...
