Why it wasn't a nice easily remembered round number is another matter.

Bulleids didn't always carry route discs. Working off region they'd carry standard loco lamps and once beyond Dorchester she was certainly off SR metals.

The route is GWR throughout. The SR just had running powers between Weymouth and Dorchester.

But from 1958 onwards Dorchester to Weymouth became Southern Region.

I was really sorry to watch, via RTT, the events that happened on Sunday. Its ironic that the diesel wasnt on the back this week when it was needed but the week before when it wasnt, it pushed the train virtually all the way..

Ive videoed Tangmere storm up Evershot in the past so what was the problem this time??

The combination of a wet rail, a slippery locomotive and a bit of hard luck would be my guess. What was impressive though was the distance sabotage of Nat Pres over the weekend to prevent the latest disruptive adventure of Tangmere being discussed. Such foresight by someone was rather clever.;)

The conclusion reached elsewhere was that the non-availability of NP was a cyber attack by the WSRA Trustees, but it seems we may have more suspects...................:D

The only good thing that I can say about this trip is the fact that Tangmere appeared in immaculate
condition as it passed me at Keynsham on the outward leg. Even the buffers had been buffed up.
The day began badly after the train was delayed by 30 minutes to the south of Bath due to a fault with
a level crossing. Eventually, as we know, the train had a problem at Evershot and eventually arrived at
    Weymouth 153mins late.
On the return the whole train was turned on the triangle at Westbury and was therefore able to continue
    steam hauled back to Bristol.
The disgraced loco is now en route back to Southall running class 33 diesel + 34067 + stock. <BJ>

Does anyone know what actually happened on Evershot? Was it simply a lack of grip or was there some other issue that made things worse? How far did they get? What did they do - set back to Chetnole, or just hand sand the rail and advance very slowly? 2 hours is a long time to be stuck in section...

Elsewhere it says that two set backs to Chetnole had to be undertaken before it succeeded to get over the bank.
Understand hand sanding was done as well.

I heard they set back to Chetnole twice and finally made it the third time...Chetnole to Evershot summit is 1 in 53/51 so not the easiest start...

Definitely not the day to be on the FGW 0925 BTM - Weymouth that arrived, finally, at Weymouth nearly three hours late. That will cost WC some delay minutes, I suspect.

Indeed, it has always been a difficult bank, not least because of the speed limits on the approach - you can't charge it in the way you can in some places. I wouldn't be surprised if they set back further than Chetnole station - maybe they did the second time?

Sounds like a robust plan. Might be an idea to pass it to the higher ups, see what that think.
Can't carry on with this disjointed shambles.
