I take it you have no sense of humour and are not a fan of I'm sorry I Haven't a Clue. There is world of difference between gentle fun poking and taking the piss as you graciously put it.

Also I am sure that the volunteer concerned is not such a hyper sensitive shrinking violet that he needs someone as politically correct as you to leap unbidden to his defence. Swanage volunteers are made of sterner stuff than that.

 

I think it maybe had run its course by message #298… that one was funny, but it started sounding a bit spiteful after that I'm afraid. Not sure if it's 'political correctness', or just a bit of empathy…

I do have a sense of humour but taking the mickey out of someones hard work is not funny...... But I do understand where you are coming from....the record does need changing

 

I see it as rather like "Boycott Bingo" on Test Match Special. The person in question at Swanage isn't the only one to have preferred figures of speech! (And he's not alone in the heritage railway movement either)

 

There are many people who confuse 'PR' and 'communication' with 'use a load of OTT hyperbole at every opportunity', often those of a younger mind set. Unfortunately, they don't tend to understand that it completely loses it's impact after the second use, becoming very tiresome to read very quickly. As in so many things, in communication less is often more.

My advice (as someone who has successfully run their own PR and media communications business for the past 13+ years) is to stick to the facts and forget the unnecessary flannel. People can smell bullshit from miles away and it just sounds amateurish.

Although it's always good fun when one who criticises the written word is inevitably hoist by their own petard...

34028 and 6695 tomorrow, and planned to be 34028 and 30053 from Wednesday.

Any ideas on when 31806 is due to be in service

 

34028 is planned to be running every day until Sunday, with 6695 as the other loco.

On Sunday itself 34028 will also be working the 'diesel' diagram in the evening, to give it a bit of a send-off. Its first train of the day will be 10:00 ex-Swanage, and the last one 21:50 from Swanage and 22:30 from Corfe Castle.

If someone was dedicated enough to ride behind it all day, they would be able to get in 108 miles of de-tuned Bulleid action; not bad for a 5 mile branch line!

 

Thanks for the information I will be down at the weekend, work permitting. It will be a sad day when the last fire is thrown out on Sunday. She sounded in fine form when I popped down to Swanage a couple of weeks ago!!

You know you're getting old when you read about locos reading the end of a 10 year ticket which, when you were a kid, were rusty hulks that you never thought you'd see steam!

 

Imagine how the guys who used to ride behind them when new feel then!

 

Throwing it out? Sod that, I'm just leaving the thing to die, bugger chucking it out at 23:00!

 

As a certain thread has been closed, I will use this one to update anyone interested in fact, rather than fiction.....

Today, 13th August 2014, at their private dismantling site in Dorset; John Bunch saw 31625 & 31874 for the first time in 14 years.
