I think it is a safe bet that it won't be going to the South Bedfordshire Railway mind :D

what a load of twaddle is being written about wheel size! There's a whacking 2" difference in dia between a Std 5 and a Black 5 with spec tyres which is all of 3%. And if it was that critical, which it's not, a Std 5 and a B1 have the same spec diameter so that argument holds no water as the LNER locos are proven on that line. I've said is several times before but a steam engine can run slowly. It has to in order to start. It starts to choke itself as the RPM increases so to run faster you need bigger wheels; To climb hills requires adhesion and tractive effort, not simply small wheels.

I think you just needed to stop there, Steve.

Even by the august standards of NP, this thread must be setting new records in the ratio of speculation to verifiable fact!

    John Bond? ;)
what is clear is that so far most of us dont know, and them that do, are not telling, someone asked why didnt 73096 move with Bodmin, again no one knows for sure , but most likily because at the time it hadnt been finalised?
i guess that some of us who do know are either saying, how did he find that out?? or having a good chuckle , of course , its destination could come as a complete shock ;)

Some of this 'I know more than you' on this thread is a bit like thrush and just as irritating. Most of us have no idea where Mr Bunch has plans to base this beast but dare I speak on behalf of quite a few of us and say we just want to see it in steam.

31806 has now completed its annual exam and steam test and is currently sitting in the yard at Ropley, so will presumable be moving to Swanage very soon. There are a number of incoming locos in connection with the diesel gala so there will be plenty of low loaders coming to Alresford in the next few days.

I passed through Alresford on Friday afternoon and there was a large lorry heading away from the railway with it's lights flashing. I thought that I would see 31806 on the trailer but it was empty so I guessed that perhaps a diesel had been delivered for the Gala. I didn't have time to stop at the station to see what had been delivered (if anything actually had been?)
