    Look at that return run, 42 minutes at Carnforth for water, OK thats fair enough, but then a further 49 in Preston, 11 in Bolton, and then 23 at Burnden Junc, now they can't all be for water......

    Steam is very much a rarity between Lostock Junction & Wigan nowadays so it's definitely worth a shot or 2. RTT is showing a Butterley-Crewe move for tomorrow together with LE moves to/from Carnforth. Is 46233 finally on the move and could it work on Saturday?

    I think the Carnforth runs are for a diesel to drag it over to LNW territory as Butterley lies within the LNE/East Midlands area. The LE moves are Carnforth-Butterley then Crewe-Carnforth later on.

    My ticket from the Railway Touring Company for this Saturdays Cumbrian Mountain Express says 6233, so that may tally in with the move from Butterley to Crewe.

    Well the Duchess did not disappoint, nothing exceptional just a good solid performance all day. With 12 on the climb from Daisyfield went unnoticed increasing speed all the way. Similarly we stormed through Settle and cruised up the long 'drag'. From Carlisle to Plumpton loop was steady but on leaving there we tore through Penrith and after a steady climb passed the summit at 59. The rest of the run back was a bit stop and go but enjoyable in spite of this. It was very good to meet the 6233 team after their enforced absence. Now looking forward to the Lowlander.

    That reads like more than a competent performance by the Duchess especially the southbound climb of Shap. I have the same expectations of the Lowlander and '12 on' sounds like a sensible load to me.
