Phil, I see you were on the right platform at Lancaster.
A rather unfortunate story from a friend on the other platform.
On the 30th August 1959, as a youngster, he took a picture of the Duchess from the other platform and yesterday arranged for the 'Royal Scot' headboard to be on in order to get the 'same shot 55 years on'. What a scoop that would have been except for the Pendo that arrived just at the wrong time.:(.

I saw on the board there was a late running pendolino which had the potential for a clash. It meant I was against the light but at least I got the shot. Was fortunate at Arten Gill as the CME passed a coal train in the cutting south of the viaduct, just a bit too close for comfort.

Pity that no one has yet reported what actually happened. I did not see it as I was towards the back of the train and after helping a couple of elderly passengers off, joined the ice cream queue..

I was wondering why the Royal Scot headboard had made an appearance. I wasn't out to see it (I wish I had been), but from the photo's I've seen, she looked the business with a full rake of maroons and that headboard. Maybe your friend will have another try soon!

Yes Ian maybe he will, but not to get the 55 years to the exact date from the original photo.....

Indeed, 46233 looks magnificent on a full rake of maroon stock with the Royal Scot headboard on the top lamp bracket,
and (sorry to be pedantic) the headboard would look even better if it was the correct size:rolleyes:.....dives for cover!

On my previous trips on the S&C, normally the stewards stand at the end of the platform, but seems as if there was no control at all.
Guessing that one person trespassed, and others followed like sheep, or moved to get a photo without people in it.

Totally unacceptable. If any of those taking the photo were regular railway photographers, then they should be asked of themselves. "Joe Public" may just thinks its normal to have a wander around! Whats the betting that next one will have a BT police presence.

Yesterday I was at Preston station to take a photo of the train coming into platform 6, from platform 7, and there were three or four of us, but lo and behold, a BT police officer came down and stood behind us.

It always seem's to be the old guard these day's who trespass. Has anybody told them, it's not the 1980's any more. It will only take one hearing aid failure, and they won't know what hit them !!

    Hi Sheff.

Yes, it's what happened at Appleby. However, it seems that there were a couple of coachloads of so-called 'normals' at the station who had been told of the arrival of 'a steam train', but regardless of the origin of the photters it's something that NR won't be impresed with :(

Yes, about 50% look like fairly typical coach party clientele, but it's a fair bet they were led astray by the other 50% - one's even set up his tripod in the four-foot! ....

PRCLT have now posted this on their website ...... http://www.prclt.co.uk/Trespass-Rogues-Gallery.html

These should be forwarded to the BTP.

This plus the York business is all that NR need to ban steam altogether.

BTP can be next to useless at times as I had a trespass photo of a young lad at Scout Green ( and I knew his name ) and they did not want to know .

Not sure what the btp could do with a few pics of unknown people.
