Don't forget it's also the curves that add to the toughness of the route, especially on the 1 in 80 up to Buriton Tunnel so fingers crossed all is ok as I plan to be out and about around Buriton on Saturday afternoon.

RTT now showing a 95 minute non stop schedule to Salisbury on the way down, due into Salisbury 11.30.

I guess it won't be able to run very early as it has the 09.50 ex Waterloo in front due Salisbury 11.20, and then a train from Southampton due in at 11.22. So unless there are things due to happen we don't know about I guess it will catch the 09.50 somewhere around Andover.

Its certainly better than the usual trundle but a bit of effort could have given an 80 minute booking. Simply holding the 0950 at Worting and a slight retiming would have been enough. It is after all only going to Salisbury.

Ah Don - always the dreamer! You are quite right of course. But I think the problem may be that there is nowhere to 'hold' the 0950 as a XCountry service needs P1 and the slow line at the same time and that's where they could have otherwise tucked it. However, send us off at 0947 and slow down the Salisbury a bit to Woking and that might work. But what do we know!

    Moderator Note:

We seem to be running two threads here on the same topic so have merged the two under the original Braunton to Salisbury banner although the Solent and Sarum does have a better ring to it.

I think that might cause platform problems at Salisbury?

Several hundred slow moving patrons disembarking from behind 34046, all wanting to watch it being slowly watered............

    One day maybe, one day.

Sorry Al, that's the second time today I've made you follow me up with a dust pan and brush. I'm still jumping backwards and forwards between steam and Owls!

Start of thread; interested in going somewhere around Raynes park for the return. Any ideas ?? She should be ready to leave Waterloo around now.

On time at Clapham, no one about though.

Was running on double yellows, so not the usual spectacle but nice none the less.

Just got back from Woking and those who didn't bother or couldn't turn up here, missed a treat. A Bullied in full flight on the down fast, just as it would have been in steam days, as Mr.Kent Yeti and Gricerdon will confirm.

I took time out to announce to the waiting passengers that a steam train was approaching so that they could get their smart phones out before it was too late! I really am a nice, thoughtful bloke despite what others say.

Here is the vid filmed with my I-Phone 5.

Brilliantly judged run to Salisbury with Wayne Thompson in charge. Was inside the old ACE schedule by Worting in spite of the slow start out of P19. Then cruised to Andover because of stopper ahead of us plus a dash down Porton.

Once again DBS/UKRT proves that decent running with steam is possible on a busy network.
