Quick question for those who know about loco lamps...

Obviously the SR predominantly used white painted circular reporting disks but what type of lamps did they use? I have looked at various period pictures and they seem to look identical to the LNER BR(E) style, did both railways/regions use the same style?

    Lamps were lamps.
Southern lamps have square handles that sit across the top where as NE handles are hoops that run parallel with the lamp.

The LNER lamps have a small red lens built in, that can be flipped round to cover the flame, whereas the southern lamps have a red aspect as part of the top handle. So the carrying handle will turn. The southern lamps of a fully welded construction compared to other regions that tend to be a tinner material and are brazed and rivetted.

Will take some pictures of mine when i get home for you to compare.
