    I think you need to bear in mind relative values: £2,400 in 1964 would have bought you a decent house! I think my father was on about £10 per week.

    Difficult to tell from the photos, but here Down under there were locomotives of the same class that had Cast or Fabricated trailing trucks.

    From what I have read in "The LMS Pacifics, [JWP Rowledge], the pony trucks were originally cast, but were changed to fabricated [as the cast ones were prone to cracking]. Detailed photos of the last two locos seem to be quite rare?

    Absolutely cracking book for anyone with a love of these locos. Some beautifully reproduced photos many of which I certainly haven't seen before. I write purely as a satisfied customer.
