getting back to the standard 4's i always thought that the 75xxx and 80xxx were the ones that shared most parts, and that the 76xxx shared very little with the other standard 4 classes, that the 80xxx was a tank version of the 75xxx not the 76xxx. boilers i think were interchangable between the 75&80xxx but not the 76xxx.

The boilers on the 75XXXs and the 80XXXs are very similar, but not interchangeable. The parallel front boiler barrel section on the 75s boiler is longer.

That is good to hear. A running std 4 Tank would be of great use to the railway, able to cope with adverse conditions better than the Ivatt 2-6-2T. Thanks for you input (to the forum and to the MHR!!)

One is the coach that until recently was running in the Countryman (completion of "Fern" for the Belle released "Sylvia" for the Countryman, leaving the Pullamn surplus) The other one is pretty much a shell, iirc. Perhaps the "new" TSO will be in Blood and Custard livery! Can't wait for the new BG to be running in the Belle set, it looks very fetching. Plan is to have it fully operational by April 2015 I believe.

Just out of interest, with the work on Wadebridge currently being undertaken, there are three unrebuilt Light Pacifics in Ropley works currently! Is this a record??

Would that change in boiler proportions be part of the reason that everyone seems to love the 80XXXs while the 75XXXs have a reputation for needing an alert fireman?

Well, there is more water to keep on the boil in a 75XXX.

Indeed, though as H U has said (I didn't want to go that far) it would be a good idea if Sir Fred were moved, the Std 4T isn't having the same problem!

Read elsewhere it's moving next month. Just waiting for ''if I know the owner but I don't'' to start speculating where again.

    Is it April 1st?.........................

Broken up, yeah - when she gets to Carnforth - to be put back together! ;)

I suppose the cleaning exercise was to give the rangers some much needed practice before the gala visitors arrive!

I think the rumour she's going to NYMR railway after they have bought her will prove to be as true as the rumour she's to be broken up for spares!

It's not like NYMR isn't short of out of service locos waiting to be overhauled!

Who the hell told you that?......... wrong side of the Pennine's for a start!

She's Carnforth bound, but who exactly owns her, and 34016 come to think of it, remains a mystery - as nothing official has been said has it?.......

Chear up, you have the 75xxx to look forward to, and no one can take that one away or if you need further cheering up, the 80xxx a double chimney 4mt isnt that far behind a 5 on performance
