A nice day to commemorate an event but not memorable. 25 Shap and 23 Beattock do neither class justice. So Galatea has nothing to beat then.

Really? The fact that both locomotives are out there doing their thing on a modern railway does them, their owners, crews and support staff justice IMHO.

Kind of you to say Alan...lot of luck involved...46233 had a bit of steam on, the sun was shining through the station roof and platform 4 was fairly quiet with people before the train unloaded and everyone ran over.

I see the LNER has pulled the job around then - an extra 3mins for the splash and dash at Carlisle ;)

From the stop at Preston Galatea with 13 on stormed up through Leyland giving the waiting ex Lostock Hall critics something to talk about, now still pushing on after a signal check, whatever has been done to her seems to have been effective.

Footage of 45699 thundering through Leyland this evening, looking and sounding absolutely brilliant.

Superb trip today, many thanks to all who made it happen, 3 classic engines and even the sun shone!!!

On board staff did a great job too, brilliant !

I think it was 414 miles we joined at Preston, at least 100 more for those joining at Crewe..?

Extraordinary tour today! Three loco changes, wonderful scenery, over 500 miles of steam haulage in one day, a great atmosphere on board - who could ask for more? Yes the Duchess did struggle this morning, but her southbound run up Shap was very good, and both the A4 and Jubilee were running on top form - my favourite moment being the look on people's faces as we roared through Warrington this evening!
