The latest Friends of the G5 newsletter reports the test fitting of the cylinder blocks between the frames. Also an order has been placed with Boro Foundry to cut the keyways in the front driving wheels (I would call them the coupled wheels). The wheels ,tyres and front axle will then be send to the SDR for assembly and a return to Shildon hopefully early next year. Smaller parts continue to be obtained for the loco and anyone interested in helping this project can find more details at www.g5locomotiveltd.co.uk. Thank you.

What's the latest after the constructing company went bust? I heard that the locomotive is owned in majority by a private individual. The owner of the company being liquidated. Is it likely to be up for sale in the near future?

Perhaps you could expand on your news story?

Expand? In terms of the construction company it was the same as mentioned in the Irish loco 131's restoration thread. RRNE at Shildon went into liquidation last week. Info on the London Gazette. I was wondering if there was any news from the other shareholders on the G5 companies position that's all.

Hello first can I say that though I am a member of the Friends of the G5 Group, Iam not actively involved with the loco. Also I have only been to one open day at Shildon & that was over a year ago. So what follows is MHO only.
Yes the same person who started the G5 project started RRNE, but they are two separate companys. So hopefully it will not affect the G5 project too much. The latest news on the website says the loco was too move out of RRNE at the begining of Febuary into its own building. Also other people have contributed to the project some large sums a minimum of Fifty Thousand if I recall correctly & others a small amount each month. So it is not a one man operation.
I hope to get over to Shildon some time this year to see how things are going, but I have more important things to think about so we will see how things go !

I can only repeat that I am told there is more than one company in the group and only one company is being wound up. The LNERCA has had an underframe delivered there today, for shortening, and has a pair of bogies being overhauled there. As far as we are concerned the company we are dealing with is trading as normal. I don't think they could have accepted the underframe if theywere in liquidation!

The G5 is fine. Multi-Tal T/A Rail Restorations were merely a contractor in its construction; The G5 have moved into their own new premises and all is well. This can not be said of the boiler of Number 40 which is owned by the Weardale Railway Trust (a charity). Multi-Tal T/A Rail Restorations have not completed the contract and have left the Weardale Trust severely in the lurch as Multi-Tal Logistics (the company which apparently is continuing to trade) have chosen not to continue with this contract. In any event after broken promise after broken promise, the boiler was in excess of a year late in its completion and the Trust are now having to find an alternative contractor to finish the work ..... Multi-Tal T/A Rail Restorations owe the Weardale Trust a considerable sum of money and its looks like has been lost in the melting pot of this company liquidation/re-structuring.

All I can say is...... if you are intending doing business or have already let a contract with Multi-Tal Logistics, be very, very , very careful in what you are doing. Check every application for payment carefully against what has actually been acheived and please put a penalty clause in your contract for date of completion; everything they do takes 3 times longer than they say it will

Sounds like this crew are taking a lot of people for a lot of money. Restructuring sounds more like writing off debt! I would hope the Weardale Railway get legals involved because they are clearly continuing to trade and not pay people what is owed. It looks like they had a mess around with two loco boilers and not been able to finish either. I can't see the other company lasting long with such a great reputation.
