Has everything else worked to diagram today? I'm looking at popping up tomorrow morning for the run with 63395 but would rather not get to Pickering for 9am to find its at the other end of the line... Cheers in advance for any info!

As it is a visiting loco of a type not native to the NYMR, I'd have thought highly unlikely that there is a suitable spring in stock, so unless the SVR have one and are on the motorway in a van even as we speak...

Presumably it was the SVR who advised the NYMR of the weak springs, under those circumstances you have to wonder if they have spares and why they didn't fit them or send them with the loco?

    44806 & 63395 at Pickering tonight having worked 1810 & 1901 ex Grosmont

1501 was seen taking water at the shed today, then must have gone inside

Hope it does appear again - somehow

63395 covered 1501 on 1006 freight ex Goathland next freight was 29 on its own

    1438 Grosmont - Goathland was 29/61264 front, D7628 rear

Great visit today 2807, 5029 very loud, pairing of 44806/45428 also good.

Seemed busy for a Friday, which should be good for the line.

Bit of a mixed day with heavy cloud and rain in the morning and then glorious sunshine in the afternoon.

A few shots from the day HERE.

Visiting GWR 2-8-0 No. 28o7 makes for an unusual sight South of Grosmont during the NYMR Autumn Steam Gala.

Thanks to all at the NYMR for a great day today. By the sheer amount of people today, both on trains and stations, it must have been a profitable day for the line. The amount of engines about provided non-stop entertainment, especially at Grosmont. Whoever made the decision to steam 1501 despite it not being fit for a service train (broken spring I believe) certainly created some new fans for the line in the younger age group. During one odd moment of quiet I watched two young lads faces go from tired to beeming smiles as 1501 came through the station.

A few shots of the day can be found below. As Waterbuck said above, it was a bit strange seeing a Castle and an A4 lined up next to each other a Grosmont! A true variety show!

Indeed, the 9.00 departure from Pickering and 14.58 from Grosmont were standing room only, particularly the latter on which I had to stand all the way to Pickering. With hindsight, I wish I hadn't brought a Whitby rover as it wasn't particulary worth it today. Still, nice weather really for late September.

Excellent Gala, well done the Moors! 5029 was very vocal on Sunday, and 2807 performed brilliantly though she never seemed taxed with a mere 7 coaches on the back.

Timetable went out a bit in the afternoon as a shunt-o-than was undertaken at Grosmont, but for us watching it was simply brilliant as there was locos everywhere and you just didn't know where to look as 61264 / 75029 / 45428 / 2807 all moved around positioning coaches here, there and everywhere. Timetable was soon recovered mind, and I arrived back into Pickering ontime at 1720 with the surprise addition of 44806 against the booked 45428.

Only comment against the NYMR I could find was that some of the windows were rather dirty and so we couldn't always see clearly out of each coach we sat in. Also slightly disapointed there was no Goods Trains to see on the Sunday, seeing as the set had been in use the rest of the gala. Felt a bit like a Gold TT at times, which whilst busy compared to most railways for a 'Special event' its nice to see little extras. Only minor faults though, and certainly didn't detract too much from enjoying the whole event. Thanks guys. :)

I had a cracking two days on the NYMR. Pretty much everything ran and it was all pretty well on time. Nice weather too (which always helps).

Favourite moments (in no particular order)
    1. Riding behind 63395 for the first time in what seems like a very long time.
    2. The Beck Hole Butty and Pint of Beck Watter at the Birch Hall Inn.
    3. Chris Cubitt grinning fit to burst on the footplate of LH&JR 29.
    4. 2807 making a noisy and very sure-footed ascent of the 1 in 49 on the 11.37 on Saturday.
    5. 5029 devouring the same bank on the same day on the 14.58.
    6. Riding into the new platform at Whitby on the Sunday.
The Old Man may disown me for saying this but I have to say I was very impressed with 2807 and 5029. I half expected that with such big driving wheels 5029 might slip on the bank, but I guess the four cylinders even out the beat. Definite signs of acceleration around Bridge 30, marvellous stuff.

It's the Western Region old reporting number. 400 series was for services to/from Bristol & beyond to the West Country. Not sure what exact service '442' signifies though.
