It's really very good. You can contribute via the feedback address.
I've not seen anything so comprehensive before.

Thanks for posting that Tim. I remember seeing this a few months back, the site hadn't been around very long but was starting to look very impressive. Even more so now. I can see myself wasting several hours of my life looking at it, if not more! I really like the idea of overlaying it on Google maps, and that you can switch between map and satellite imaging, so you can see what disused lines look nowadays.

    Even Snailbeach is on there.

Can we say Snailbeach yet? I think we can say Snailbeach now. Nobody died ("died").

Bloody hell, quite an achievement then! A few features I think would be helpful though:

    1) The ability to only show lines that either existed or were built from a certain time period, so I could see for example only lines that exist today or only lines that were closed before 1940 or whatever.
    2) The ability to be able to view only certain companies' lines, for example be able to block out the various tramways.
    3) Stations viewable on the maps on the now closed lines. tey show up on the existing lines because they do on Google maps, but to see where old station were too would be great.

Indeed, along with some of the lesser known tramways over the hill around Huglith, Gittingshay, Cothercott, Annscroft etc.
...although the short one at Rhadley doesn't show up.

Impressive coverage of The Forest of Dean waggonways. Also great detail of the lines around Caradon in Cornwall, a particular interest of mine. It even shows the former 7-1/4" Forest Miniature Railway at Dobwalls :D

Apparently it was the GWR's Avington Branch opened in 1918, out of use by 1920 & torn up in 1923. Built to service three military camps at Winnall Down, Morn Hill & Avington Park.

Near Pickering we have the Saintoft Sand line running to Newbridge quarry, plus a number of private sidings and mine railways along the NYMR.

It shows at least one line that was proposed but never built, the one originally planned as the Watford and Edgware Railway which nearly became the extension of the Northern Line beyond Edgware. West of Watford, as well as the Croxley and Rickmansworth branches, it shows some extensive sidings off the Rickmansworth branch. Anyone know anything about those?

Edit: found some info about the latter at

Too slow. There are 6 Facebook pages for this scheme already, one suggesting using broad gauge nuclear-powered mag-lev services. Heritage Lottery Funding application has been submitted.
