There are degrees of historical correctness, though. Black might not be authentic for 6100 as an individual loco, but it is authentic for her class. Thus, LMS black is still more "authentic" for 6100 than LMS red, which (AFAIK) no "Royal Scots" carried after rebuilding.

Then again, one could argue that LMS red is now, in itself, a "historic" livery for 6100...it would simply be a recreation of her appearance during the many years she was owned by Butlins and Bressingham :p

Out of interest, which livery has she carried the longest? Would have though it was LMS red...
Anyway, surely Galatea has shown us non-authentic liveries can be magnificent, and attract a lot of interest.

To stir the livery debate, what is an authentic livery? It is arguable that Galatea is not 'preserved' but is simply a locomotive in the fleet of a railway operating company which is operating commercially (which I'd argue that WCRC is). It is thus the equivalent of a second hand loco purchased by another organisation and is now painted in that organisations desired colour scheme. (WCRC might even decide to paint their locos pink with WCRC in big letters on the tender as their chosen livery.) In times past, the KESR painted their second hand locos in their own livery, which is exactly the same thing. Are these therefore authentic liveries, or not? Authentic seems to be considered as being a livery that the loco carried in the past but, once a new coat of paint is applied, does not that become authentic? When BR became Galatea's new owner and painted it Green was there a cry of 'it's not authentic? Or what?

I've said much the same in the past. When a loco changes owner it almost always changes livery. I first saw 6100 when it arrived at Bressingham so only remember it in LMS livery and thus have no problem with it running as such. On the other hand if the new owners decide on BR green, I won't complain either.

Having read back a few pages to catch up, 46100 can't be too far away from completion now? An update from those in the know would be most welcome :)

Saw it on sat. The boiler is back in but I believe it is coming out again soon. Tender is nearly complete and in green.

Haven't heard any "dates" for steaming but I did hear that JH wanted it ready for the replacement of Bittern. So that would in theory be for next season with testing this winter?? Braunton is due to stay at Crewe for a minimum of 6 months for its intermediate. And not sure if there has been any more progress on Brit's missing axle. So 46100 is needed pretty quickly! JH should have a good fleet available soon though with Bittern,6024,46100,70000,Nunney,Port line,Braunton for the mainline. If only he could buy the Duke and Blue Peter!!

If that's the case, it'll mean she's going to be Southall based.......... make a change to have something down here from the Late Mucky & Slow other than a black 5 or two........ and something with a bit more Oomph as well! :)

5029 - hope the next two years are better than the last two, it's nigh on 7 years since overhaul.
    6024 is another year yet
70000 - hope the next two years are better than the last two, then after that it's at 7 years...
Port Line - any one seen any update at all on this in the last 5 years ?, Tenders with Braunton isn't it ?
Braunton - overhaul time of the year is nigh..
Bittern - overhaul time of the year is nigh
46100 - hope that anything is better than it's last 6 years...

who said owning a steam locomotive is all about having fun and joy rides ?

60532 / 71000 - poor owners got a lot of cheques to write on his desk as it is without 2 more money pits to sink into.

No wonder he's bought his own workshop..

I hope he's getting enjoyment from his investments so far and doesn't decide this is all too much and follows the path of Pete Waterman.

After travelling behind sister loco 46115 on her only ML run in the South in 2010 (impressive performance and soundtrack) I can say I am rather eager for 46100 to return to the ML in the South. Hopefully she is far fitter than she was after the previous overhaul and is blessed with better luck! She should be quite a beast going by 46115's exploits.

Perhaps a period of running in at a certain steam railway in the South, before venturing out on the big railway would be a good thing. It could be tied in with a spring gala visit also.

Regarding the tender destined for Port Line.:

This is the large capacity tender swapped with the MHR (ex.CanPac) and presumably went to Bury when the swap took place.

Port Line had a smaller capacity tender whilst she was at Swanage and it was advantageous for both Jeremy Hosking and the MHR to do a swap, with the smaller tender in better condition, but the larger tender more suited to mainline work with Port Line.

Braunton has a new build tender built at Williton and is running with this on the mainline. The previous tender(ex.Port Line) she ran with earlier on at the WSR is now running with Wadebridge and is destined for CanPac once her overhaul is complete!

Don't forget 35022 Holland-America Line. I'm not expecting to see this loco working for a few years yet, but at least its long-term future is secure. At one stage, it seemed like its future was to be a source of spares for Port Line, but the old Icons of Steam website did suggest it was "awaiting restoration" or similar.

Can anyone provide us with an update on how 46100 is doing? I see the last update was October-time with a couple of members hinting at a potential mid-2015 completion date for the Scot - is this still on track?

    Thanks in advance :)

Out of frames hydraulic boiler test was done the other week. I believe it passed and is now being put back together. If Heritage railway is correct there is to be a Crewe Diesel depot open day on the 9th May this year where im sure 46100 will be on display. Ill ask during the week as i need to visit Crewe Hc.

46100 briefly appeared in the recent BBC news report about Pete Waterman auctioning his model locos to pay for overhauls of his full size locos. Pete and the reporter walked between the loco and the tender, both now in green livery in the works.
Heritage Railway reports 46100 and 34046 are planned to return to traffic in June with 46100 going to a preserved line for running in turns.

Im going to guess at Mid Hants. Arnt they having a LMS themed gala later on in the year? And with 70000 recently doing higher speeds there its fine for getting ready for mainline and a short trip to Southall. Plus its a location JH obviously likes his engines at!

Going by a previous report it won't be the MHR as the guy overseeing the overhaul wants to take her somewhere near Crewe.
Hopefully she will make it to the MHR for the LMS Gala though.
