I was told this AM that 45305 had failed with tube trouble - not sure if that was the cause of the delays yesterday.

Some delays and slippage today too, and the Freight was cancelled (boo hoo) although all in all not too bad. The Old Man and I were lucky with the weather and managed to get some good running time behind City of Wells - not the loudest but apparently the Volcano references are to the clag factor which was definitely at the top end of the scale!

We enjoyed the Haworth shed tour too, although with City of Wells and Big Jim out on the line the inside of the shed looks very different now.

All in all another very good day at the KWVR, thanks guys.

    A Thingy...
Turned up specifically for 34092, and was not disappointed. For a Bulleid, it is loud at lower speeds, the Giesl ejector making it sound like a machine gun, athough it returns to normal fare at 25mph. The fact it carried 'Wells' nameplates was a nice touch. I noticed that the speedo link has yet to be connected.

Excellent climbing up the bank at Keighley (we were given a helpful shove on the XP turn), with slippage only evident on less difficult stretches of track, but this was more to do with an afternoon shower passing over than anything else. I got the impression that it flattens the gradients and is a strong 'un (the crews might have a completely different impression, though!), so if I had £45k going spare, I would almost certainly contribute to its return to the mainline. So congratulations must go to the restoration team on their achievement.

Great video Austin, and not a hi vis to be seen!

That coal tank going up Keighley bank against a blue sky really looks the business.

Great gala with some of the best conditions of the year. "Wells" lived up to its reputation as a Volcano and all the other engines pitched in with impressive performances. A shame about the problems with goods train on Friday and 5305 but it didn't spoil the weekend for many. My images from the gala can be found at https://flic.kr/s/aHsk4C6Aaf

I couldn't resist this weekend and had to nip over on both Saturday and Sunday (I only live over the hill in Queensbury so didn't have to travel far).

Saturday I spent the morning getting a few pictures - something I've not really done for a good few years - had fun using my nokia 800 - it reminded me of the days when I'd take my camera along with 2 / 3 rolls of film and I'd snap away - not much of a professional photographer - more of a point shoot and hope for the best. It's more exciting that way not knowing what you will get until you've clicked.

By lunch time I couldn't resist so I took to the trains. I think throughout the day I managed to travel in everything possible...

I'd travelled down in the Restaurant car - very cumfy springy seats... then I travelled back up in the LYR brake coach. Later in the day I managed to travel in the first gangwayed brake that doesn't usually come out to play - towards the end of the weekend this wasn't sounding too good (and wasn't used on the Sunday). It was good to travel in something a little different.

I managed to enjoy the Express behind Wells in the one and only Jubilee Bar - standing room only - due to a few speed restrictions this was pretty tame until we got to Oakworth bank where Wells sprung into action and races through the station - rocking and rolling before slowing down a tad for the restriction over the bridge. Speed or no speed - Wells has a different sound - a pleasure to listen to.

I was lucky to have a ride in the Club car all the way from Keighley to Oxenhope - what a dream! It's a brilliant piece of work!

I got a ride in the Southern open coach and on Sunday I had an amazing ride in the 6 wheeler behind nunlow - a different experience - anyone with back problems, this will sort you out - or if that fails - then ride in it behind Nunlow and Wells from Haworth to Oxenhope!

I have to say that I was pleased to see the LYR stock out again on the Sunday instead of the suburban set - nothing wrong with the suburban set - but they get used pretty regular - I think that at Gala days the railway should show off it's fantastic coaching stock.

Perhaps next time the railway could muscle up a parcel set. There's plenty of stock they could use - throw a few coaches with it - it would make a different shuttle - no reason why not if the shuttles are top and tailed to reduce the need of using Ingrow yard to shunt around stock.

Talking about the shuttle some people were moaning about the Shuttle on Saturday only working up to Ingrow and having to get everyone off before it ran back ECS. I agree and disagree. I agree in that people could have been made aware that the shuttle would only work one way - however I also think that it wasn't so much of a big deal in that 14 minutes after the shuttle had left - the next service train was arriving at the station anyway.

Sunday the timetable seemed to come and go - at times it was behind, then they would catch up - and then something else would go. But as some people said - the timetable always goes out of the window - so I half expected it - made no difference to me - I was staying there all day both days anyway :)

All in all a great weekend - looking forward to the next event in March! With or without a visitor - with 75078 back in action (touch wood) there should be plenty of steam about!

The comment about the L&Y set above reminds me - I'm sure I saw what looked like a wooden bodied six-wheeled coach inside the C&W shed at Oxenhope. Looked like it was having the body work finished off too.

Can anyone say what it was and when it might be available for running?

some really nice shots there thanks, I particularly like the one of 'Wells' at Mytholmes in superb afternoon light. I think it was a great idea to 'pre-name' 34092 in its original guise for the gala. Thanks to all involved.

It is a bit really, was hoping to see 752 back by now but I guess you can't count your chickens until they're all hatched. Besides, KWVR has just had about 10 years of working with LYR locos and stock - no doubt this will be the case by the time the next LYR coach is ready - until then you'll have to just settle for 5820, 34092 and 75078...
