    The Starbeck group subsequently moved to the Yorkshire Museum of Farming and set up the DVLR. The two Gresleys which were at Starbeck passed to the LNERCA.

    Remembered 4 more sites of steam sheds on preserved railways. Kirkby Stephen was next to the road bridge, to the right of the East station. Now an industrial unit occupies the site. They could be persuaded to move though, send the boys round with large spanners and crowbars...... sorry, slipped into fantasy there.
    Dereham,. Not sure if it is still on MNR land or the new housing which seems to be surrounding the railway these days.
    Kidderminster. Now buried under the huge carriage shed I believe. However, the site was unused for about the first 20-25 years of the SVR.
    Also, Ashburton, which was preserved for a few years but, became a victim of the A38 from 1972 onwards.

    Rowsley is a bit of both. It has been rebuilt over the original pits but, bears no resemblance to the Midland Railway or, BR rebuilt versions. It just looks like an industrial unit on a trading estate. It can go in the saved side though just to improve the score.

    latest score:- Lost sheds 18 Saved sheds 10. Time some shots were put in the back of the Lost Sheds net.

    Tyseley, Bury, Dereham(?) Boat of Garten, Rowsley are all physically achievable, only the will to do it is lacking. ( will overcomes cost ).

    Kidderminster isn't under the carriage shed (at least to my knowledge) but under a housing estate just past where the SVR diverges

    Dereham isn't NNR but Mid Norfolk Railway

    The gresley coaches at Starbeck were always the property of a group of LNERCA members, they were moved there so restoration could start midweek as some of the members lived in Harrogate.

    Kidderminster Loco shed was on the opposite side of the line from the former goods yard over part of which the recently built carriage shed was erected. The loco shed connection was a short way down the SV branch after it diverges from the main line and the points giving access were under the first overbridge - hence the slightly strange alignment of the bridge. Modern houses have been constructed on the site of the shed totally obliterating signs of the previous land use.

    Speaking of Kidderminster shed there were two books written by Tony Barfield about life at the shed , published by Bradford Barton. Long out of print but if you are looking at second hand books and see a copy , well worth buying and reading. Entitled "Of Panniers and Prairies" and "When there was steam"

    I believe that the owner of several diesel locos at Kirkby Stephen East station had just such a visit on more than one occasion in the past few years. Seem to recall that said 'boys' departed with considerable amounts of copper in their swag bags...

    One of my favourite topics, this one!

    Compbyne was the Axe and Lyme Railway. Full story of the abandoned proposal to run high-speed miniature electric trains on 15" here... http://s9.zetaboards.com/MRW_Forums/topic/7045681/1/

    Isle of Wight did have a 2'6" gauge line a few years back at Yafford Water Mill but that has closed now - used those big grotty Hunslet 0-4-0 things.

    There was also a 15" gauge line proposed (and stock acquired for) the Medina Valley Railway on the IOW. Not sure if the stock ever got to the IOW, but it was tragically all scrapped.

    Bradford Transperience had a great little collection but the whole enterprise was a shameful affair with poor business planning and an almost total lack of marketing.

    Isn't there a substantial collection of standard and narrow gauge stuff stored outside in private gently rusting away in the scrub, mid-wales somewhere? I'm sure I saw that on an Urbex site some time ago. Someone please remind me...
