The picture in post 189 on https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/35005-canadian-pacific.150892/page-10 shows, on the side of the cylinder/valve casting, what looks like a round access plate. What is that for? Is it related to how the valve was driven before the rebuilding with outside Walschaerts?

In most terms it is defiantly the performance that is the top one and I think there were a few light/merchant Pacific's that were bad performers from this programme I watched I think one of the ones they mentioned was merchant navy Orient Line but I don't know in full. Unrebuilts do have a striking look about them I fell lucky to live in horsted Keynes with my girlfriend and sometimes we go down to the bluebell and the sight of 34023 Blackmore Vale well she looks lovely in original condition and livery and I only noticed up until recently that the bullied light pacifist were missing a counter balance on the driving wheels but with the chain gear would the hammerblow differ from chain gear and walschaerts valve gear?

I heard today that next years gala at the SVR is going to be a Bulleid gala. Can anyone from the SVR confirm this rumour.

    Cheers

I wouldnt be surprised if it is, following the success of the Mid Hants Bulleid themed gala at the start of the year if they can get Clan Line like we did and something like City of Wells they would have a real winner on there hands.

Im not so sure, next years the SVR's 50th anniversery so Id expect any visitors to be locos like 3205, 60009, 61994 or Leander maybe, this is what the SVR news has hinted at. However I could be totally wrong! 34027's due back in traffic soon so there could some truth in this rumour , and personally I wouldnt mind City of Wells storming up Foley Park into the tunnel! We shall see! Nothing wrong with having a day dream about what might appear!

With the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain next summer maybe Tangmere will finally have opportunity to masquerade as its numerical predecessor by way of a tribute?

34046 is supposed to be renumbered as 34052 Lord Dowding between July 10th and October 31st next year.

May I remind you that 66 was the loco involved with the devestating Lewisham train crash in 1957. IMHO no loco should cary that number again

Apologies for any offence caused by my ignorance of that fact. Clearly there are wider considerations regarding my suggestion which I hope those who have control will be mindful of.

Wasn't there a plan at one time for '67 to be re liveried as '66 for an advert a few years ago?

There are alternatives like 34064 Fighter Command as an obvious example or 34055 Fighter Pilot.

I think that 34067 running as 34064 next summer would be a nice tribute, it would also complement 34046 as 34052.

What about 34065 Hurricane? But can't see 34067 changing ID. Maybe 34092 or 34007 though.

Apology accepted. I am probably more sensitive than many as my father was seriously injured spending over 6 months in hospital. I must also remember it is over 50 years ago and not in the forefront of fellow enthusiasts memories.

Why not leave 34067 as 34067? What's wrong with Tangmere? It's a perfectly valid name to mark the 75th anniversaryt of the BoB and better still, it happens to be its real name and number. This mania for re-numbering locos to represent scrapped classmates is just plain daft. Let's grow up and be thankful for the engines which have survived instead of forever trying to trn them into what they are not.

    Nothing, unless you're talking mechanically.........

As for the renumber, rename of loco's to mark & honour the fallen in the BoB, why not?......its rather fitting, and I for one would like to see those running on preserved lines be temporarily thus done, whether it happens or not is another matter......
