If 30777 is now effectively retired from the mainline might it be possible to reuse the "gubbins" such as otmr tpws etc on 34092?. With 5305 at Haworth there is presumably some channels of communication available.

My recollections are that "Spam Cans" were the Bulleid Q1's, and yes, I have eaten Spam sandwiches whilst sitting on various stations collecting numbers.

My Dad was a spotter around Romsey, Southampton and Eastleigh in the 1940s. He saw 21c1 on a couple of running-in turns, before she was named Channel Packet. He says "Spamcan" meant any of the "air-smoothed" pacifics to him and his friends, while the Q1s were "Coffee Pots" or "Charlies". Things may have been different, though, on other parts of the network

I spent my childhood on the platforms in Kent and Q1's were never, ever known as 'Spamcans'. They were always known as 'Charlie's' or 'Ugly's'. The Merchant Navy's were commonly called 'Packets' and the Unrebuilt Light Pacifics were known as 'Flat Tops'. Until the end of Steam in Kent i never once heard the name 'Spamcans'; this seems to be a name that spread from Western Region spotters down Exeter St Davids way from what i've been told.
