I visited today with my Dad and sister to go to the Watercress Festival in Alresford for the first time. Blimey! I didn't realise how many people actually attend this event. The top and tail Class 20 shuttles between Ropley and Alresford were...

Why, because the ECS to Windsor also includes a bizarre mixture of 100mph EMU, 75mph EMU and 60mph diesel timings, and that's just on the Clapham Junction to Windsor section, as well as the outward run showing as 100mph EMU, 75mph diesel and...

The simple reason is that Holgate and the Leeds lines through Church Fenton have an engineers possession on them today. This was deemed the most expedient way round this. Peter.

That is my experience too Mike. There seems to be an assumption by some on here that you cannot have a good steam run if there is a diesel on the back and that is so untrue. Of course nothing is garunteed with or without a diesel but most steam...

I agree, it makes it a bit pointless to try and compare what happens now to the situation in steam days. Operations then were geared to a crew of average ability and locomotives in average condition that could range from an ex works engine to a...

Why erroneous? We know that as the system does not recognise steam locos it takes various incorrect combinations to allow the pathing to fit. Many tours change loads and "power" during tours when nothing actually happens. From memory the regular...
