Yes, it was about 8-9 years ago that the main donor was asked and agreed to the money being spent on Car 54 instead of Carina. The published strategy three years ago did not require Carina, but was to use Aquila as a second Kitchen Car on a 5-car...

More on the AGM / members day. Note that although this is billed as a "members day", there is no reason why non-members should;t visit and enjoy what is on offer; only the AGM constitutes formal BRPS Members' business. Of course, you may choose...

We travelled on the shuttle today. Well organised and a credit to the RVR. We shared our compartment with a couple from the village. They were complimentary but said that while there are still mxed feeelings in the village the attitude is improving.

Possibly varied by company though? In any case - never mind the names, what about the functions? Surely regardless of what you call it, a valve sited just above the foundation ring is there to do the daily blow down. So I’m curious on how you do...

Just to show you how good a Bulleid sounds on the Mid Hants metals. The MHR film crew have produced a footplate video from 34070 footplate. [MEDIA]

Great stuff! Brings back happy memories of having a footplate ride on 34007 "Wadebridge" some years ago.

Well, I suppose what I was saying (and it's obvious if you think about it) that it's only necessary to steam it if nothing smaller that will do the job is available. It gives us more resilience in the event of another loco not being available,...

Yes, that's pretty much what I had gleaned although some of the older news reports from http://www.6880.co.uk/news/ confirms the swap from 5199 to 6880. In a nutshell. 6880 runs with wheelsets that previously ran in preservation with 5199...

That was probably one of the best GWSR steam galas that I have attended. Like most people, I had not seen 6880 in working order other than the images and videos at Tyseley. It was amazing to see both 6880 and 2999 working the GWSR line. Both...

I don't usually "do" the Cumbrian Coasts and I hadn't planned to do so today. This morning I had a job, to print two photographs, simple you might think . . . think again! The photos, that reside on Mrs W's phone had to be printed a specific...

I didn't take any pictures of this area myself whilst looking over the engine in the shed today, but there's now a valve on both sides - the fireman's side looking more angled than the driver's I think...for reference here's a screenshot from the...
