March's 'Steam Railway' reports that the National Railway Museum is planning a 100 mph run on the East Coast Main Line in 2013 - the 75th anniversary of 'Mallard's' record. One of the A4s - most likely 'Bittern'? - or 'Tornado' are mentioned as possible locomotives for the run.

A fair bit of discussion about the logistics and difficulties of setting up such a run - including apparently approval by ORR.

Well, Tornado would require to do a test run at 99mph to get a 90mph approval, so...

The caveat, of course, is that it's approaching April 1st, and the mag has 'form' with wind-ups...
