Seems it is a 70 years of the Class 52 event. Strange that for a Loco built down to a standard just for the duration of the war has survived in such large numbers.

And is still operational in a non preserved state as well in the Balkans.

It is definitely strength in numbers... There was around 8000 built... That's 10 Kreigsloks for every 8f.

    The sheer volume of war locomotive production in Germany is staggering.... The 8000 br52's is on top of 3000 BR 50's... 2000 BR 44's, 1000 br42's, 800 br86's and 300 BR 41's... Compared to the UK's 800 8fs and 800 WD's and 2000 s160's from the USA.

And that's on top of the 2000 BR 38's and 2000 BR 58's from ww1 that were still running around... Plus the "smaller classes".

    Thats 19,000 mostly 2-10-0 freight engines... And 500 Pacifics ( BR 01 / 03)

no wonder little steam was built in Europe after ww2, mostly what was built was for passenger use.

I did read somewhere that plans for a cut down UK gauge sized BR 52 where found in existence...Hmm.

After the Iron Curtain went ,a number of 52s were found on the border to Poland all facing west and oiled up ready to go.They had fitted with the soviet smokebox doors. I think one was preserved and the rest went for scrap .
