    Afternoon All,

I have just spent a splendid week in North Wales which included the Ffestiniog Railway's superb '1863 and All That!' Vintage Gala weekend. I took lots and lots of pictures and the first selection is now on Flickr. This is the first one if anyone would like to have a look :

As usual, clicking on it will enlarge it and take you to the others.

I've still got a few captions to finish, but I expect you will know what you're looking at.

Hope that they are of interest.

    Evening All,

If anyone is interested to have a look, the third batch of my pictures from the Ffestiniog Railway's '1863 and All That!' Gala is now on Flickr. This includes further pictures from the splendid night photography session that the Railway laid on for us photographers.

This is the first one in the Photostream :

Likewise, thank-you; wonderful images of Harbour Station full of Englands. Sorry to have missed the event... next chance to see the like, presumably, will be to celebrate W.P.'s 10-year ticket... but that's a different story (and a different thread).
At the end of a big year for anniversaries, am stuck with a thought that I've been pondering for a while; we've seen all those crowds flocking to York for the Great Gathering, gazing in awe at the polished, pristine A4 reposing in well-earned retirement - and am guessing that quite a few of those people will have been trying to envisage the world as it was 75 years ago, when Mallard was setting that record. The past being a foreign country, etc - most under-40s would find 1938 a very strange land.
Yet, as messrs Duddington, Bray and Gresley were coming to terms with their achievement, there were, similarly, 75-year old record-breaking reciprocating steam locomotives to behold; except that, far from being museum pieces, Prince and Princess were still gainfully employed, moving mountains.
Just a quirky symmetry in the numbers... but how did 75 years ago seem, 75 years ago?
