I am currently compiling a diary of my childhood railway experiences and would like some help with the following workings of Edinburgh - Birmingham services in the early 1950s ( 1950 - 1956). I would be grateful for any help as at the time I was not aware of collecting locomotive numbers.

    1. There was a daily through service which I believe was a Crewe class 7P (Patriot / Royal Scot); did this change loco at Crewe and what was the replacement loco class. Did the same arrangement apply in reverse (i.e from Birmingham to Edinburgh ?)

    2. The regular arrangement was a short train to Carstairs then attachment to a Glasgow - Birmingham service for a joint Edinburgh / Glasgow service. What was the motive power for the short train; what was the motive power for the combined train; did the train locomotive change at Carlisle and Crewe and what was the replacement loco class. Did the same arrangements apply in the reverse direction (i.e from Birmingham to Edinburgh ?)
