Passenger numbers on high-speed AVE services between Catalonia and Madrid increased by almost 20 per cent in 2013.

Around six million passengers used the corridor between February 2013 and February 2014.

Since the launch of services on the Madrid -Zaragoza- Barcelona line in 2008, more than 33 million passengers have been transported on the corridor’s high-speed trains, with an overall punctuality rate of 98 per cent.

The number of services has also increased from 17 each way in 2008 to 28.

The most popular journey in 2013 was between Barcelona and Madrid with 3.2 million passengers – 18 per cent more than in 2012.
