2014 April - Locomotive No.1 Talyllyn Suffers Damage

Discussion in 'On Track.' started by Karen Willans, Apr 15, 2014.

We are sad to report that on Sunday 6th April the Talyllyn Railway’s historic locomotive No.1 ‘Talyllyn’ suffered a mechanical failure which resulted in significant damage to its running gear.

After an initial assessment it has been confirmed that the locomotive will be out of service for several months while the affected parts of the motion are repaired.

Currently various options are being explored for these repairs to be carried out, particularly as the railway’s Pendre works is heavily committed to other work at this time. However, the intention is to put a plan in place for the locomotive to return to service as soon as possible. In the meantime all passenger services will continue to be steam-hauled by one of the railway’s other locomotives.

    General Manager Chris Price commented:

‘Obviously we are upset that this has happened to a much-loved and historic locomotive, but people may rest-assured that we are going to do everything we can to get ‘Talyllyn’ running again as soon as practicable. Certainly we are keen to have it back in service for its 150th Anniversary later on this year, and the plans for that celebration are still going forward at this time’.
