2014 August - Young Members Group Carriage Push

Discussion in 'On Track.' started by Karen Willans, Aug 5, 2014.

YMG vs Old YMG Carriage Challenge!

On Saturday the 2nd of August two brave teams of over enthusiastic mad volunteers took on the challenge of each pushing a four ton carriage up the 7 ¼ mile to the Talyllyn’s terminus of Nant Gwernol.

This was a carriage push with a competitive edge, a carriage push with pride on the line. The old young members (OYMG) had challenged the young members (YMG) to a time trial carriage push and in a shocking upset they won despite the heroic efforts of the young members.

The OYMG finished with an impressive 2 hours 4 minutes 26 seconds with the YMG finishing with a respectable time of 2 hours 21 minutes and 40 seconds.

But the ultimate aim of this event was to have fun and to raise money for two worthy causes. All funds raised are being split two ways between CLIC Sergent and the Sir Haydn Appeal. Any further donations may be made at the booking office.

This push once again illustrates a unified volunteer community spanning generations which is at the heart of the Talyllyn Railway.

Thanks to Rory Robinson, YMG committee member, for the update.

The YMG are next in action taking over the TR on Saturday 23rd August - come and see how they get on! More info at http://www.talyllyn.co.uk/young-members-day
