2014 May - No 1 Talyllyn progress update

Тема в разделе 'On Track.', создана пользователем Karen Willans, 1 июн 2014.

TR Chief Engineer Martin Turner has kindly provided the following update

Work so far done at FR is to reprofile both sets of wheels and skim the journals on the driving set. The pictures show the driving crank pin remains being bored out and the holes trued ready for new pins to be fitted . This process will also correct any errors, if they exist, in the quartering. Parts of the new trailing wheels have been delivered to Boston Lodge and these are also being progressed and will fitted prior to No. 1’s return.

The piston heads and front cylinder covers have been modified to allow an improved method of securing the piston head to be used. New piston rods will also be supplied and the crosshead tapers machined to match these.

The steel profiles for the new coupling and connecting rod should be available about now having been water jet cut from steel plate and will now require finish machining. Patterns have been made for new rod brasses and again these will need machining once these have been cast.

The rods and brasses are being made by ourselves, although not in house and should be delivered to the FR for white metalling and final fitting towards the end of June/ beginning of July. The two driving axle boxes will also need re metalling to suit the skimmed axle journals. And the chimney needs putting back on!

Thanks to Bill Edmondson (22nd May pics) and Graham Williams (31st May) for the photos.
