2014 September - No 1 Talyllyn's practice run

'Stretching her rods' ready for 24th September

On Sunday 14th September the crew of No 2 Dolgoch's down train has a nice surprise waiting for them at Brynglas - No 1 Talyllyn had come to join them. Talyllyn came down as far as Wharf with Dolgoch's train. As it was such a nice day, Talyllyn's test crew thought they would like to double head on the 14.00 back up the line. This is a usual part of the running in process, as there is a loco to help in case there were any problems with Talyllyn.

All went well with extra stops at Rhydyronen and Brynglas to make sure the loco's bearings and motion weren't getting too hot. The fireman's side crosshead is still running a bit warm, but this should settle down as Talyllyn continues her running in period.

It was an extra 'treat' for the gentleman who had booked a footplate ride on Dolgoch as a 'Talyllyn Treat'!

No 1 Talyllyn will be starting her 150th celebrations on 24th September - come and join us to welcome her back into service - http://www.talyllyn.co.uk/locomotive-no1-150th-birthday. As part of the celebrations, TR volunteer Martin Fuller will also be launching his new book about the history of our locos pre-preservation.
