2015 February - Half Term Trains

Discussion in 'On Track.' started by Karen Willans, Feb 22, 2015.

First trains of the 2015 season

The first weekend of February half term was busy with our Local's Weekend. Extra trains ran, including No 2 Dolgoch on her first public train in the 150 Celebration livery. Congratulations to our newest Passed Fireman Matt, and to newly promoted Passed Cleaner Jack on completing their passing out turns successfully.

The following weekend was also the start of Spring Outdoor Week. There was plenty of work taking place around the railway including tidying up the Wharf approach, digging up the back road at Pendre and hedge and tree maintenance up the line. The garden at Wharf looks so much better for a few hours of hard work.

As our volunteers can testify, our Fathew Valley can have glorious sunshine at Wharf and thunderstorms up the valley. This was certainly the case on the last day of half term running. Thankfully for the gangs working at Wharf, it was sunshine for most of the day. Up the line was a different story with Abergynolwyn alternating with sunshine and heavy rain. The crew of the last train of the day were not impressed to be hailed on approaching Nant Gwernol. As the photos show, the station did look very pretty afterwards. Heading back down the line the sun came out again and Cader Idris and her snowy peaks were clear to see from the train.
