2015 September - Heritage Weekend

Discussion in 'On Track.' started by Karen Willans, Oct 4, 2015.

A weekend of themed trains and other events reflecting our varied heritage

A few photos from the last gala of 2015 - celebrating our heritage over our annual General Meeting weekend 25-27th September 2015.

Friday specials included The ‘Day Rover’ – a six and a half hour tour of the railway, the Last, Last, pre-preservation passenger train re-enactment hauled by No 2 Dolgoch, a re-enactment of the winter Pendre to Brynglas passenger service, hauled by No 5 Midlander and finishing off with an evening photoshoot at Wharf with our Fletcher Jennings sisters No 1 Talyllyn and No 2 Dolgoch.

Early risers on Saturday could have caught The Sunrise Saloon Special - travelling up the line as the sun rose on another beautiful, sunny Fathew Valley day. Other special trains included:

    • The first Society train re-enactment
    • Re-running The Sesquicentenarian
    • Modern Engineering Train hauled by one of the new Baguleys
    • A real Wedding train for Amy and David's special day
    • The Royal Special .
    • The Midnight Express - timetabled to arrived at Nant Gwernol on the stroke of Midnight

Sunday morning saw No 7 Tom Rolt take on the Non-stop special to Nant Gwernol. Following the train up the line was the The Vintage Train and then a Demonstration Slate Train. The rest of the day included:

    • A Mixed Train from Abergynolwyn to Wharf
    • Showing of The Titfield Thunderbolt and short Talyllyn films on the big screen at Tywyn's Magic Lantern Cinema
    • Classic Car Gathering at Tywyn Wharf

Many thanks are due to Ian Drummond, Ellis Jacklin and everyone else involved for all their hard work organising the events this year - watch out for what we have planned for 2016!

Thanks to Max Birchenough, Ian Drummond, Barbara Fuller and Darren Turner for the photos.
