    Hi everyone,

If a thread about 30777 has been created already, would the moderators please move this to the appropriate place? :)

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about 30777. In SR magazine, 30777 was still at Tyseley but was moving back to Loughborough for her repaint into 777 at the time the magazine went to press. Nothing has been mentioned on the 5305 website, and was confused as to why this hasn't been mentioned on their website... I read that she was to take the Shepard Neame tour on the 1st September, then move to the MHR for Maunsell Magic.

If anyone has heard anything, would they mind posting please, as I would be interested to see 777 before Maunsell Magic.

Latest news on UKSteam is that 70013 will now haul The Spitfire on the 1st of September, due to gauging issue's. Shame as i was looking forward to a run behind 30777.

Slightly disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing 30777 on the mainline one last time before she's withdrawn for overhaul (but I still intend to see her at the MHR). But 70013 is a MORE than acceptable substitute ;-)

Curious. If she is due to be withdrawn for a major overhaul, it does seem odd, in a cash strapped environment, to be repainting now.

Just had a trawl through the weekly Newsletters from the GCR, and 30777 is mentioned in the newsletter for 11th July, with a comment that the engine remains at TYS being prepared for wheelset work, and the tender is at Loughborough receiving attention to metalwork on the tender upper sides. Nothing since, so presumably no dramatic developments to report.

Cannot see anything on the Tyseley website, but most of their news tends to be about their mainline tours rather than what is happening in the works.

A gent from Vintage Trains ( Ben?) does post on here, so if he sees this he will no doubt help out with some info.

When did 30777 return. Was it 2007? If so she still has at least two years years before withdrawl but I think according to Steam Railway 30777 will be painted Malachite as 777 as she'll appear at the MHR but she'll apparently go back to 30777 afterwards but carrying the BR version of Malachite.

30777 returned mid 2006. A bit disappointed to hear she won't be on the Spitfire run. 70013 is a good replacement though.

Oh right about a year left then unless the work being done at the moment is enough to extend or start a new ticket. Is there any news on the NRM/5305LA wanting keeping her in steam past her current ticket. I guess they will want to keep 70013 going when its ticket runs out so she'll be part of the 50th Anniversary of the End of Steam.

But aren't you basing this on the non existent 7/10 year tickets?

777 doesnt seem to get that much mainline work, I suppose the group are kept busy with 70013 and 45305

Seems King Arthurs are comparable to Halls (class 5's that can be problematic gauging wise), take a look at UK Steam and with the exception of 4965 on the Shakespeare Express, they do very little compared to other types.

In a way, I'm surprised at the restricted route availability, as they don't have the under-slung cylinders that tends to restrict a Hall. Maybe they're just as wide overall. I am looking forward to having a ride behind 30925 (my first-ever V class in preservation!) in September nonetheless.

IIRC from previous discussions on this subject, the issue with the N15 is the length of the front overhang and amount of "throw", which causes problems on curved platforms and the like. So although the cause is slightly different, the effect is basically the same as for Halls. Certainly, both types are subject to a severe speed restriction through the down platform at Culham station, when most other locos run through at line speed.

30777 was pulled from an RTC Three Bridges- Fareham-Bath working two years ago because of concerns about it passing through Chichester station, which has curved platforms.
