    Hi All,

I have been keeping an eye on recently the restoration of 33035 at Barrow Hill & was interested to know if ANY of you guys knew any more info on how the "Crompton" is favouring or how the restoration progress is getting along?

If anyone can give me some more info on 33035 that would be great!

I can't give you a very definetive answer but I know a man who I can get the details off!

As far as I know, progress is very good and the loco is still on track to appear at the Swanage Railway diesel gala in May. I was told the other day that some sort of testing (mileage accumulation I think) will occur fairly soon and the engine may be fit to work at the mini diesel gala at Barrow Hill in February.

The poor weather of late has held things back a bit of late in a number of ways...

... painting cannot be completed with the very low temperatures and this is holding other jobs up as items need to be primed and then refitted and so on.
... the efforts of the working party were diverted onto more pressing matters with plumbing problems at BH.
... the local roads around BH aren't in a great state now and they were terrible over the past few weeks which lead to some incidents, hence that the people couldn't always get there safely.

Those things aside the restoration is doing well...the engine has been run up several times so I am told and it now runs without any issues. The roof 'pod' has been removed to return the loco to its orginal condition and I hear it is planned to turn the loco out in BR Green (or maybe BR Blue - one of the two!) The glazing will be refitted to the loco in the near future. Once things warm up the painting of the bogies and framework is all set to continue.

If you'd like any further info I'll ask my friend who's been pretty much living on the engine for the past few weeks!

    Richard,

Before I trouble my friend dare I suggest you visit the prototype diesel group's blog at: http://pioneer-diesels.co.uk/blog/

I don't think many people are aware of that blog and I've even had a struggle to find it just then! It's quite detailed and hopefully that might answer all the questions you have but if not I will happily ask my friend for the answers.

There's quite a few photos of the loco on there so you can get a good idea of how it's looking at the moment. Hopefully if the snow and ice dies down abit the team working on the loco can make some major progress with it. Come to think about it now though I do wonder if the loco will be painted by the mini gala - we'll just have to wait and see there.

    Merry Christmas,

    Ian

I think it will be one of the first three weekends in February. I know thats probably not a lot of help right now so I shall try and get a more definitive answer for you. Once details are finalised I expect it will be advertised on the Barrow Hill website but I shall post details here nontheless (also check the barrow Hill Social Evenings Thread for updates).

The aforementioned gala at BH should be going ahead on Saturday 5th February!

I am starting a new thread in the galas section for it so check there for updates (if there any)... basic jist is 20096, 20107, 20121 & 20132 topping and tailing with 09012 - various combinations thereof througout the day.

The roundhouse etc will be open and it should be possible to view the progress on 33035... There may not be public access to the sides of the loco though as the prototype diesel group may be in residence working on it. I should expect if you ask nicely and threaten to throw a few quid their way some one might show you round it though.
