    Gathered from West Somerset Railway website link; http://www.wsr.org.uk/webcam1.htm the superb locomotive Class WC 34046 Braunton is back in steam as from today after her recent boiler wash through.

    Is the plan for Braunton still to go main line in the not to distant future?

  4. A quote from the management team issued 14 July said "With the approval of the owner the locomotive will make its first visit off the WSR to the Mid Hants Railway September Gala, provided satisfactory transit arrangements can be made for movement by rail. Subsequently it will be available when it is fully fitted for main line working and has completed all necessary test running, which is being planned for Autumn 2009. This will depend on potential host railways being main line connected as the locomotive is not intended to travel by road. "

    The loco is due to be (diesel) hauled to MHR on 8 Sep.

    I would have thought an ideal candidate for Torbay Express duties? Be good to have a rebuilt back on the mainline given Taw Valley's protracted overhaul.

    Don't think that will be possible as I think the TE stock is air braked & 34046 is vac only.

    Just seen an immaculate 34046 run round at Minehead, courtesy of the webcam, after bringing in yet another train with what looked like a healthy passenger compliment.

    Think you will find 34046 was fitted with an Air pump during its overhaul, i just dont think its all been piped up yet.

    There were certainly pictures of the pump being mounted in its restoration gallery

    It would also be good to have 34046 on a few Cathedrals Express duties. Although Tangmere looks to have had its main line cert extended beyond 7 years, sooner or later it will need an overhaul, and another Bulleid in action in the part of the world they were built for would be very welcome. I have only seen pictures on 34046 since restoration, and what a magnificent sight. I remember at the WSR S&D 30 gala in 1996 seeing this sorry-looking wreck posed next to 34039 Boscastle. The transformation that has occurred since then is quite amazing.

    It won't be too long before 34039 and 34046 will be reunited, both in steam, considering the overhaul of the former is in hand.

    Don't minds just wonder to what might happen??? I'll be at the MHR gala to see Braunton for a run and to take lots of shots and pretty sure she is kitted out for mainline use? Otherwise the talk of her going mainline with her ticket carrying on, the WSR and others surely wouldn't have said about?

    I wonder if one of the tour companies would consider running a tour with 34046 & 34067 together before 34067 main line ticket expires. I’m sure there would be enough people out there that would want to buy tickets for such an event.

    Very good idea, and just the sort of thing Steam Dreams do rather well. It would be nice to have an itinerary that uses each loco single-headed, then finishes off with the pair double-headed. How about something like this:
    Tangmere: Waterloo - Bournemouth; (LE to Eastleigh to turn, then back to Weymouth)
    Braunton: Bournemouth - Eastleigh - Salisbury - Yeovil (turn) - Weymouth;
    Tangmere + Braunton: Weymouth - Winchester - Waterloo

    Or a day of Salisbury - Southampton shuttles, as with 70000 and 828 in the mid-1990's??

    Sad news if she isn't coming to the gala. I was just going to ask if anyone had times for her ML move tommorrow from the WSR to MHR.

    Edit: Just looked at UKsteaminfo loco moves page and the movement of 34046 from the WSR to MHR is no longer on there.
