I assume a diesel is to be expected given the terrain it's taking on ??

You would certainly think so, especially with a standing start from Abergavenny. Though at the end of the day, we'll just have to wait until Saturday to find out.

Sorry but I think I have become a critic of tangmere. A wise load like what was done with the Brit yesterday + diesel is required for Tangmere anywhere. I know some fans will disagree. WCRC Carnforth think that all of their locos are in 1st class condition but we know that is not exactly the case. It is one tour at a time for Tangy.

I live in Bristol and would love to do this trip with Tangers. But not if there's going to be a diesel on the back. Can anyone confirm?

Pretty much confirmed on the Duchy on Sunday. If there isn't, Abergavenny ain't a bad place to spend the day.

Given Tangmere's problems on the Dorset Coast train today and her withdrawal as stand-by for tomorrow's CathEx to Cardiff, her availability for The Cheshireman must be in some doubt. I wonder if Mayflower or Britannia can be made available at short notice? Depends on their maintenance schedules and support crew availability, I expect.

Tangmere doesn't have boiler issues, the reason the trip is cancelled is unknown to us

So why would SD post this message on their website:

In addition Tangmere, our reserve loco, may be withdrawn from service when it gets back from a trip that it is on today due to problems with its boiler that might need immediate attention.

Rather than accusing a significant "customer" (via WCRC) of Tangmere of "spouting rubbish",would it not be an idea to ascertain the facts first?...

I'm really pleased that there isn't a problem with the engine. It'll be good to see The Cheshireman hauled by Tangmere on Saturday. <BJ>
