40th Anniversary Day – 11th June 2016

    The GWRPG 40th Anniversary day was complete in that former Chairman Bob Gorringe attended the event with his wife to the pleasure of the other members who participated in this historical day in the story of the group. Many members came along, mostly from the surrounding area, but others travelled from Llanbister in Mid Wales and Dilham, Norfolk.

    My Uncle was as humorous as ever and spoke to all in turn; he was then invited to cut the Anniversary cake and did so with his usual jokey comments. Other refreshments were available in the BG Mess coach together with Edward Boxell’s ‘sales area’, where light and power were now provided by the working Perkins engine in the Generator Van.

    Many photo opportunities were taken and projects in hand were described to other visiting members. Member David F had been busy in washing down Peckett William Murdoch prior to its imminent journey down to the Helston Railway Preservation Society in Cornwall. They have had recent success from their council planning department to extend their track and this locomotive will be used extensively once they have carried out its fourteen month service.

    The group’s 200 Club draw took place in the Mess coach and Bob Gorringe was asked to draw the first few numbers. Many prizes were won and actually three numbers drawn by other members gave my Uncle three wins. This quarter’s main prize was won by member John B of Guildford.

    Director and Acting Chairman Mike Gorringe thanked all for coming and participating in this rather special day.
