Sunday 2 October 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the inaugural "return to steam" special operated on 2 October 1971 from Hereford via Severn Tunnel Junction, Swindon, Oxford, and Solihull to Tyseley, promoted by H P Bulmer and hauled by 6000 KGV. To date I have not seen or heard any information about a possible anniversary run to commemorate this major steam event. The 40th anniversary of 1T57 was commemorated by West Coast Railways on 10 August 2008 and to me it seems fitting if the “end” was commemorated then so should the “re-awakening”. With 6024 now having obtained a 12 month extension to its main line certificate this would make an ideal substitute for 6000 and maybe 6023 could also play a part if it is main line registered by then. If there is sufficient interest maybe a tour promoter could grasp the nettle before it is too late, that is of course if one hasn’t already done so.

6023 will be on the GCR then

IIRC 6024 ran the 30th anniversary train
