45428 Eric Treacy back in service

    45428 running today on the 32nd anniversary of railway photographer Eric Treacy's death - http://markt79.fotopic.net/p64815869.html This was 45428's first solo turn to run the full length of the NYMR, The Black 5 ran to Pickering yesterday assisted by 44871. Should be in the line up for this weekends Spring gala

    45428 was in service this week, but with no cabsite number on one side and only the middle "4" on the other. Looks like she was hurriedly removed from the paint shop.

    One question - why are the tender wheels different? The front and rear wheels are spoked, but the centre wheel has a solid centre with holes near the edge (similar to Class 40? diesel).

    Just found the answer to my own question on the NYMR Unofficial forum - it's had the "odd" tender wheelset for years apparently.

    If you look at 45596 Bahamas it too has a mixture of disc and spoke wheelsets on its tender.
