I spotted this, just wondered whether it was original or a replica?

More out of curiosity than anything else!

There seems to be a bit of a dispute going on.
i still want this plate you have been paid for it and postage. it is your fault for wasting everybody's time..honour the sale. i shall block the sale with ebay and leave negative feedback.cancel this ad.02-Jan-10A: hello I will let you have the sale of this plate but you were refunded the money for the plate so I suggest you contact me to discuss this, as you only gave me less than 20hours to email you before you told paypal to refund the listing. I emailed you the reason last night you were going to have the plate by Tuesday. regards Roy Gregson J.P

Surprised he hasn't gone to a railwayana auction room. Even with commission, he'd get a good price for it as the market is still buoyant despite fears that its going downhill... that is, if its the genuine article. I've also heard that there are a few fakes that have baffled some auction rooms recently, impossible to say without close analysis of a metal sample.

Since the loco was sold from BR to Butlins I would have thought the plates went with it (same as with 6201)

Looking at the P it looks wrong , so my belief is that this is a replica

Advert updated since the above posting advising that the plate is a replica.

Still worth a couple of hundred though.

I remember it was only a few years ago (Crewe's last open day) that the originals number plates of 46229 and 46233 were found within the works, therefore the original smoke box door numbers didnt ever leave the works for 40 years after the locomotives did...makes you think if there's a few others hidden in some box somewhere in Crewe.

Ah but the question is did Roy think he was buying an original? I would be interested to know what his winning bid was.

I notice the seller has answered a question on the size of it with 'It's brass'...

.....and then updated this by saying "led to believe the plate is made of bronze" Got to be honest alarm bells are ringing now.

Take a close look at the pic. Ever seen brass or bronze look like steel before?

It turned out that he did not win it, I did.
It is brass, just not cleaned for a long time... Nothing that a bit of elbow grease and brasso and a new coat of paint won't put right.
Just had a look and a new finished Procast replica is £410 so I'm very happy.

Is he really only charging £6 for Royal Mail delivery?! Must be made of cardboard ...

Reminds me of something I bought on ebay when the seller ended up out of pocket - the postage ended up costing more than my final bid!

Thanks Dan, I was very surprised to get it, expecting the price to go higher but ended up with only one other bidder who had put the first in.

Richard, no it's not cardboard I picked it up yesterday and it is brass and pretty heavy.
