I can't wait to have a few round trips behind 50027. Should get some great music from the exhaust going up Medstead bank.

    Sorry to see you going.
Best wishes for your pastures new.
Always have liked the 50s since travelling behind them Double Headed over Shap in the 70s.

And with any luck the MHR will reinstate a diesel gala next year.

I would love to see 50027 lifting 8 coaches or more up the bank from Alton, one of the sounds missing from todays railways is that of a Hoover in full cry.

Make sure you post when it's rostered.. last time I saw a moving class 50 was Stockport with 50007 + D400 on a 3 hour something late running railtour circa 1991.
Last time I rode behind a 50 was 50008 + 50015 double heading at the ELR also circa 1991..

I miss the site of class 50's at speed going through clapham.. have a great memory of 50032 storming through there in the late 1980s and others.. maybe again some day.
Fantastic diesels are class 50s... oh I now feel old.

I must say that I was delighted, but also surprised that the Mid Hants wanted 27. I have absolutely no inside info, but of late I have assumed the MHR to be hostile to diesels. The Hammy gets occasional advertised use, and I believe diesels are used when a steamer breaks down, and possibly on Rats and Dining trains? Will 27 have actual advertised use I wonder? I believe the MHR could make a lot of money out of this loco if they use and market it properly!

It would be great to see and hear Lion on a cold wet winters RAT, though the crompton was always enjoyable too.

You'll almost certainly get your wish as that is precisely the sort of use MHR has in mind along with a possible diesel gala next year and the odd running day of course.

Not yet, but there is a steam engine on the other end of the train for most of the evening that provides the heat.

Well, now I know what I'll be doing this afternoon once I finish work! Tried to geta phot of it at Grosmont last summer only for the camera to jam. Last time I got a shot of it was sat in Ropley yard just after its arrival. Will be great to see it back at the MHR. Now all we need is 33208 back from it's repairs away from home, and 45132 and 27007 returned to traffic. With a line up like this, + 33053 a diesel gala must surely be a cert for 2013 with minimal costs at bringing in guest locos? Please, please, please, please, please, please, please!!!!

Also agree, it would ba handy for Swanage if they wanted to borrow it for one of their excellent galas!
