    Hello all,

Some of you may know that 5029 Nunney Castle is to be repainted this year into Early BR livery, the logical 'next step' from the livery it is currently in. Below is an 'artist's impression' of what the locomotive will look like:

For up to date info on 5029's current winter maintenance program visit the 5029 Nunney Castle website and go to the 'Maintenance' page.

    Cheers!

It will look much like 5043 without the double chimney and enhanced superheater, so would be nice to see them double head at some point.

A little O/T, but 5043 currently carries early crest. Did any Castles have early crest and double chimney at the same time? I don't recall seeing a photo showing that combination.

I think 7018 did for a while when it carried the prototype "fabricated" double chimney. Can't recall any "production" double chimney Castles in this format though.

Very nice! I look forward to seeing her in this livery. I have always thought that she looked better in BR guise. Don't know why but it just seems to suit some loco's better than others. Oh dear I've just said something about BR LIVERY! Cue the livery arguments...........................

Looks pretty nice, and would be even nicer if paired-up with 5043. Oh dear, you've got me talking talking about GWR locomotives now! I'd better start immersing myself in an oilbath to get rid of the smell of Brasso ;)!

So what, actually, will be the difference? Early BR logo on the tender instead of "British Railways" in GW script, and a smokebox numberplate instead of yellow paint on the buffer beam? The dark green and the lining will be the same as now, won't they? Or near as dammit... Or am I missing some subtleties here?

I did have a little chuckle to myself when I saw the "artists impression". I mean, it's not exactly difficult to imagine what a Castle will look like in early BR green.

You are indeed, the running plate on GWR livery is black, on BR Livery it's green.

The lining is also slightly different. GW lining has two extra bands of lining on the firebox, a box of lining on the cylinders rather than two vertical lines front and rear, and the lining on the cab is not a box below the windows but rather lines out the whole cabside.

Yet another post on this forum that isn't in any way constructive.

The image was edited purely to see how the loco would look. I don't believe a Castle with a Collett tender has been in this livery in preservation, hence why I did it.
