5542 at the GWSR

5542 is now at Winchcombe on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, photos of her being lit up ready for pre service checks are on News Page.

 

Loco being used today on wine and dine - two round trips, so a good gentle start to normal running. All being well, she is rostered on wednesday and thursday. (8f on tuesday)

GWSR 2012 has new photos of 5542 in action at Winchcombe and Cheltenham Racecourse yesterday.

 

Just a quick update on things 5542.

Since return to steam on 31st May, up to and including 31st August the loco had operated on 42 days clocking up 2754 miles at an average of over 65 miles per day of use, which is very close the average figure achieved during the previous 'ticket'. A further 6 or 7 days of use has already occurred in September, so over 3000 miles has now been accumulated and the next boiler washout looms on the horizon. So we continue where we left off in October last, with the loco performing well and being in great demand. The economics of its operation being an even greater benefit in the current economic climate. As always, latest news is on 5542 - The Planet's Favourite Prairie

5542 has today returned to the GWSR for a few days of Race Trains next week, however on Saturday there is the first opportunity to travel the whole 12 miles without train change. 5542 is set to star see GWR - Gloucestershire's mainline heritage railway - The 09.45 from Cheltenham: a historic journey.... '42 will leave the GWSR on Thursday for a Six week spell in West Somerset prior to returning to take part in the War Weekend in late April.
