Bump this up again, is there any news on this loco's return? All seems very quiet! First tour seems to be The Cathedrals Explorer in May, so not long to go... Of more interest to me is the Inverness trip for SRPS at the end of June which I would like to book on - providing all is ready of course..

Almost certainly. 60007 was lit up in the yard at Grosmont on Saturday with paintwork rubbed down.

Better make sure your mate buys blue paint if he thinks he's painting No 9

Shall Union of South Africa be in Crewe this summer? Or Is this not definite at this point.

No 9 is in Crewe right now - but her planned movements this year don't indicate that she will stray there. We shall just have to wait and see.

In any case - No A4 should have to be a 5A machine - it just isn't right!

What about Crewe Works 1966/67? 60007, 60010 and 60026 were there all at the same time. So there is a precedent.

In another thread, "MeltonNorth", who is known to be close to RTC management, stated that 60009 is expected to join 46233 and 70013 in the "Crewe Pool" this summer. However, it seems it's too heavy for the river bridge at York, so won't be rostered for the Scarborough Flyer. I find this a little surprising, since she has been a regular visitor to Scarborough in recent years. Also, if "The Onion" is too heavy, what about The Duchess? I thought that only a King had a higher axle-weight than a Duchess?

Me and a couple of mates are probably going to do this trip, too. Will probably get on at Perth, as we'll be travelling up by service train and it really is a dawn patrol start and night owl finish at Glenrothes.
