Full timings now on uksteam.info. 39 mins Waterloo to Woking, direct via Surbiton. Looks quite slow as far as Clapham Junction (15 mins) then rather faster (24 mins) to a stop at Woking. For comparison, Clan Line was allowed 9 mins to Clapham Junction on 23rd May, then 22 mins to Woking, but wasn't stopping at Woking.

The return should be quite brisk. For instance, 60163 is allowed only 10 minutes for Havant - Petersfield, compared to 15 for Clan Line last month.

That's a typo, she's booked 16 mins Havant - Petersfield. The correct time through Petersfield is 13.47 not 13.41.

A very busy day, but some pretty slow timings. At least one stop to be overhauled included, ie 10 mins Basingstoke to Worting Junction for 2.5 miles. But I said the timings for 35028 were slow, and look what happened there!

One interesting timing. 3 minutes from a Bromley South start to passing Bickey Junction! I've seen trains take 3 minutes to clear the platform at Bromley South before now. Well before now of course. I'm talking 1950s!

I've heard that 5Z98 15+30 Waterloo - Battersea Loop will now run via Barnes, Kew East Jn, Willesden SWS to Kensington to turn the loco and train. Can't turn via Clapham Jn and Latchmere reversible due to engineering works on the Ludgate Lines (Claphan Jn (WL) - Longhedge Jn) until 1600 ish on Sunday.)

    Regards, Neil

Anyone know what the height/width/other issue is that lets an A1 go around Kent, but prevents a Gresley A3 or A4 from doing the same?

I may be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that 60163 has been built to fit a wider route availability than original LNER Pacifics can.

I believe that's one reason, of several, why they specified a welded boiler; the outside plating can be fitted more flush onto it.

I've said this before..the time will come (and very shortly) when only the DieHard enthusiasts will be hanging over bridges and on platforms to see 60163 pass through.

It won't be necessary for 'jobsworth' to even turn out.

Human nature takes it's course-anything new as bright as a button, the place is packed. Then you have the cooling off period.

The crowds we have seen so far haven't turned out simply because Tornado was running, they turned out because the Tornado people made sure everyone knew it as running. I think the Tornado PR machine will have the power to pack stations and the lineside when it wishes to for some time to come, especially after tonight's TV programme.

Most people will probably be out for the Kent Tours tonight and maybe nip home in enough time to see her on Top Gear. By December Tornado will have been everywhere in Britain. =D>
