There is a copy of a letter from the 6024 society floating about which they have apparently recently sent out to some of their membership seeking funds as they are having difficulty in raising finance for their longer term expenses and wish to ensure that 6024 remains operational. All very laudable, but it goes on to say that they are shortly facing another very expensive major overhaul, and it also appears that the management board are intent on paying the costs of a recent court action taken out against two individual members despite the fact that the action was not taken against the society.

Interestingly the letter from the society's general manager goes on to say that the future costs are not fully quantifiable but that they are looking at a range of options to raise the necessary funds. He goes on to say that they are exploring various options including if necessary selling the engine to another trust and then the society leasing it back to operate.

Does Mr Corser have any idea who would be interested in buying the loco?

And do the whole of the membership currently know of this proposal? :nono:

Wow! There's some fun to be had speculating over this one! The Trust set up for Royal Scot would seem an obvious candidate, but 6024 spends a lot of time at the West Somerset, so might the WSRA be an outside candidate to give them a flagship engine?

I think that many main line loco groups are going to be in the same position going forward. I have for some time believed that main line operating model is insufficient to cover the increasing costs of paying commercial prices to return a loco to main line operation. Enjoy what we have while we have it

It's news to me and I am a member of the 6024 society. Mr Hosking would be a good candidate for a buyer and 6024 would certainly have a secure financial future. At the moment though, lets just see what happens.
