If memory serves correct the need for speed was that the LMS authorities wanted the new Royal Scots in service for the 1927 summer timetables - and in those days if the Board wanted - the Board got else someone quickly had a change of employment. As noted by class8mikado why waste time re-inventing the wheel when it already exists.

One has to feel a little sorry for the owner .With 70000 having problems , 6100's continuing catalogue of woes and 34046 missing it's debut, and all restored in different places . at least 60019 and 5029 seem to be performing ok and 92212 on preserved lines , although where is 6960 at the moment (digressing massively)

Messrs Kennington and Ward are two Gentleman of some renown in railway preservation. Mr Kennington (iirc) was for a long time 4472's Engineer and Mr Ward was head of Steam charters on British Rail

6960 is at the WSR undergoing overhaul I think.

Well Kennington is still very much active I believe and still looks after "the owner's" locos?

For all those berating the work on 6100 at Southall, this continued confidence to look after his other engines must be a sign we don't know the whole story, indeed isn't the plan for 6100 to be based at Southall ?

Wasn't the group that 'restored' Royal Scot different to the group that look after his other locos though?

This may seem as stirring it, but if Crewe are so much better why has it taken 2 years to realise they are going to have to remove the boiler?

Probably more to do with workload than anything else. They were rather busy with 70000 and they also seem to be very popular for boiler overhauls at the minute. There's also the narrow gauge loco for the WHR being overhauled. I assume that they now have a bit of space and they're getting around to looking at her properly?

Don't forget 45379 on the Mid Hants. That seems to be doing OK since it's recent debut.

45379 I believe is a Mid Hants owned engine. Only 92212 is Hosking's owned at Ropley now that 60019/4492 has left.

Correct.....Not forgetting No.9's Overhaul (now underway) and the duchess's boiler, they are very busy, and as has been mentioned 70000 was a major job and done to such a high standard (barring the usual teething troubles) I think its a case of Business first then "trust" work when it can be fitted in.......

I stand corrected but I could have sworn that Jeremy owned the Black Five.

I'm not sure if he owns a Black 5. I know he owns 34046, 6960, 60019/4492, 35022, 35027, 70000 with 6024 and 6100 under the Royal Scot and General Trust. Though I'm not sure how accurate I am or what locos i maybe missing out.
