I see times are now up on UKsteam Info for this tour on the 26th. There seems to be change on the return as the tour is now coming back down the WCML from Euxton Junction rather than via Manchester.

Ralph, Matt and I are travelling on this as our first mainline jolly of 2011 so may see some of you about :yo:

Missing out Manchester makes sense really, all that route does is adds extra time to the journey and very little else, the long meandering drag round the back from Victoria to Stockport is not the most scenic of lines. Instead Lizzie gets the chance for a spirited run through Wigan and Warrington and back to Crewe.

This looks good - steam over Shap as well as Ais Gill in one day takes some beating.

It's also practically sold out I believe, only a few standard left last time I looked.

I will be making the short journey to Warrington BQ for this. After when I've photograph 6201 speeding through will make 3 LMS engines I've photographed at that station.
Will only leave a Scot :)

Booked this morning when boss wasn't looking, meant to ages ago but office has been frantic and I don't see any internet booking facility with Vintage Trains to let you do so out of normal office hours - only 2 seats left, so just as well I didn't wait till lunchtime!

At least now I know where to send the bacon rolls!

Should be a good one - there is a certain person who swings a mean shovel that is really looking forward to the run back.... not mentioning any names - he is a LEGEND!

    See everyone on Saturday!

If there are three of you in two seats it looks like VT have seriously overbooked on this one. Who's sitting on who's lap? :)
On the subject of THE LEGEND, I seem to recall that after every stint on a 'Big Un' he always regaled us with tales of how much of a struggle it was to keep it going, and that a Hall was just about all he can cope with.!!!

I hope the bar is well stocked with some decent stuff, we might have to bring our own otherwise.

Can anyone at VT say whether the 47 will be on the back of the train all day or will it just wait for us at Crewe, and then will 6201 and the 47 double head back to Tyseley through New St?

If you can't find what you want in the buffet, give me a ring and I'll send someone down with stock from the Pullman!

The plan is to leave the 47 at Crewe, BUT we reserve the right to take it with us on the back if the situation calls for it.

On the return to Crewe, the 47 will join infrount of Lizzie. Both Lizzie and 47773 (D1755) will then run us back home to Tyseley through New Street as we have done before. Lizzie is to have a minimal fire for the pass through New St...

Just a note: IF we were to take the 47 with us, then Lizzie will have a similar load as Edgcumbe did last year on the southbound leg of "The Pride of Swindon" excursion.....

Ben, EoME had a point to make and GW honour to restore, Lizzie has nothing to prove, she's been there and done it countless times, so let's hope that the diesel is left at Crewe and we have a pleasant day with steam only, then there will be no opportunity for the anti diesel snipers to moan.

Can Ben tell us under what circumstances the class 47 would NEED to be attached? Poor rail conditions (unlikely), fire risk (unlikely) shunting manouvres (unlikely). I can't think of anything else. There is a big backlash at the moment regarding the number of STEAM advertised tours that have diesels tagged on the back. Go back only 5 years and it was a totally different story!!
